Emily Jenkins ACR
Managing Director & CONSERVATOR
I first became fascinated by painting techniques, processes and materials as well as the history of art during my Fine Art degree. This inspired me to undertake an MA in Conservation at Northumbria University, after which I was selected for an 18-month Traineeship in Paintings Conservation at Tate which exposed me to a huge breadth of painting styles and periods, and allowed me to undertake museum level treatments and preventive measures.
We get to work on beautiful paintings from all periods at Simon Gillespie Studio, but something I enjoy the most is conserving 17th and 18th century portraits: taking a damaged portrait and restoring not only the damaged paint but also reviving the character and personality of the sitter is incredibly fulfilling. Taking our clients on the journey through the process and keeping them informed of transformative treatments and interesting discoveries is extremely rewarding.
