Dr Rita L. Amor ACR
CONSERVATOR
I am a paintings conservator specialising in contemporary and urban art. I received a BA and MA in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) in 2010, followed by an MA in Conservation and Restoration. In 2017, I completed my Ph.D. in Science and Restoration of Historic and Artistic Heritage at the Polytechnic University of Valencia after developing research on the adaptation of the conservation measures for aerosol art. Since 2011, I have participated in various research projects in the conservation of paintings, ethical approaches on public art and collaborations with contemporary artists. I have participated in international conferences and symposia and have published several papers on methods and procedures for the conservation of graffiti and street art, as well as the conservator’s role and approach to contemporary spaces.
In 2012, I moved to London looking for new opportunities in art & conservation. I participated in educative and dissemination projects on British heritage for public and private institutions, worked internationally in the preservation, conservation and restoration of artworks by well-known artists and sites - joining the lovely team at Simon Gillespie Studio in 2022.
I enjoy the versatility of the studio: from Old Masters to the most recently produced works of art, also developing any type of treatments - from condition reporting to minimal treatments, as well as most restoration procedures.
Independently, I carry on conducting research and keeping updated on recent advances in conservation techniques and modern materials.
Art is not only work to me, as for 10 years I have been enjoying the opportunities London offers in terms of exhibitions and art events, I love the active life of this beautiful city so I never get bored! I also enjoy long walks in the city and countryside, swimming all year round, cooking Asian and Mediterranean food and trying new recipes, and also more quiet activities like reading and drawing.
